You and Your Money Are Created By God, For God

Series: 4 Gospel Foundations to Experiencing Financial Freedom
Devotional: 1 of 4

Wealth and honor come from you;
    you are the ruler of all things.
In your hands are strength and power
    to exalt and give strength to all.
1 Chronicles 29:12

All of creation was made by God, and God created everything for His glory, His will, and His purpose. Having this kind of a perspective for your life will help you redefine and reimagine everything. Our view of everything begins to shift from a self-centered focus, to a God-centered focus.

If we are created by and for God, this means that all things revolve around Him. This revelation doesn’t just impact how we view our lives and the resources we have, but it also should spill into how we do everything.  How we live our daily lives, how we interact with others, how we treat the planet, how we show up for work, and how we use our money.

The way we spend our money really says a lot about where our hearts are at, what we truly believe in. If you declare with your mouth that God is deserving of all the glory, are your dollars painting the same picture? Do you spend with the mission of furthering God’s Kingdom? Or rather, do you spend in pursuit of making your kingdom greater?

No one is trying to point fingers; God knows I need to ask myself these questions everyday. I am here as a sister in Christ, simply pointing something out that you may have never thought about before.

“Give me five minutes with a person’s checkbook, and I will tell you where their heart is.”

Billy Graham

The first foundational principle we need to understand about our money, if we are serious about transforming the way we view and use it, is that it has been given to us by the Creator of All and that it was created as a tool to be used for His glory.

Next week, we will take a look at the 2nd foundation as we begin to refocus our view of money.

Reflection Questions

  • What happens when we view money primarily as a means for personal fulfillment?
  • In what ways does this renewed view of your money motivate you to transform the way you use it?
