This Is How You Confidently Spend Your Money

Series: Having Faith-Led Finances
Devotional: 4 of 4

For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through Him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.
2 Corinthians 1:20

There are financial experts out there who give recommendations as to what percentage of your income you should be spending on certain categories. For example, experts say that you should spend about 25-30% of your income on housing, 8-12% on food, and 10-15% on transportation.

These percentages can be helpful to get you started with money management, but they don’t always leave a lot of wiggle room for the Holy Spirit!

Besides giving 10% to our churches, the Bible doesn’t give us clear direction as to how much we are to spend on every budget category. In one of the lessons inside of my mentorship program, students learn about the 4 ways to discern how God wants them to spend their money.

The number one way in which you can begin to confidently spend your money is to get to know God more! Understand his character. Get to know his likes and dislikes. Figure out what excites him and what he doesn’t want anything to do with.

Remember, that money you have in your bank account belongs to him. It is your duty to learn how to manage it in a way that he agrees with.

Your challenge this week is to pay attention to every purchase decision you make and ask yourself these questions to help you confidently say YES to the things you need to say yes to, and to say NO to the things you can do without.

  • Does it align with the word of God?
  • Will it be a blessing to someone?
  • Does this purchase help you with your unique calling?
  • Do you have peace about it?
