I am an avid book reader. Books have played a big part in my own personal finances as well as my journey becoming a money coach for faith-filled young professionals. Why Read Books About Faith and Money
Why should you learn more about God’s design for money? Paul David Tripp says it really well in his book, Redeeming Money, “Every day millions of us are seduced into asking money to do for us what only God can do.” There is a reason why money is mentioned over 2,300 times in the Bible, because it is easily the top vice that every single human struggles with. Wealth is an amazing tool that God has blessed each of us with, yet the Church typically doesn’t do a whole lot of teaching on how to properly view it, manage it, or spend it.
I highly recommend taking the time to pick up one or two of these amazing books about faith and money. I can’t promise you that they will help you fix all of your money problems, but I can guarantee they will be a great starting point. We do this all for the glory of the one who provided it all to us.

Redeeming Money: How God Reveals and Reorients Our Hearts
Author: Paul David Tripp
This is probably my favorite faith and money book. I came across it soon after I created my money coaching program, Redeeming Your Finances, and it has shaped a lot of the way I help teach people about biblical finances. As the title suggests, this book does an amazing job truly reorienting your heart towards the way you view and use money. One of the main lessons that Tripp teaches is that our money problems do not stem from overspending, but rather from discontentment and that the solution to our money problems does not come from more education, or a new budget, but rather a total surrender to the original design for money given to us by our Creator.
God And Money: How We Discovered True Riches At Harvard Business School
Author: Gregory Baumer & John Cortines
Originally titled, Through the Needle, this is one of the first books I read about faith and money. It is written by two Harvard MBA students who discovered God’s design for money. This exploration brought them to the conclusion that being generous and giving away their money is the way to true riches. I love that this book focuses on living a life focused on being as radically generous as possible. One of the other interesting parts in the book is when they walk you through setting a “finish line” for both personal consumption and net worth.
The Debt Denominator: How to Dig Deep Beyond the Surface to Divorce Your Debt
Author: Imani Hamilton
Written by one of my good friends, Imani Hamilton, this book gives you a very practical and hands-on explanation on how to tackle your debt and get rid of it for good. Imani shares the Biblical framework that she used to pay off over 6 figures worth of debt in only 4 years! I had the privilege of interviewing Imani about her book, and that interview is available for free here.
Biblical Economics 101: Living Under God’s Financial Blessing
Author: S. R. Watkins
At the writing of this article, I am currently reading through this fantastic book and it has been so fascinating! Full of historical context and scriptural references, this book helps to dispel the unfortunate myth that it is more blessed to be poor than rich. Watkins explains how God desires a life full of abundance for His believers so they may be financially equipped to do good works for the Kingdom. This book was gifted to me by the author but my thoughts are my own.
Dr. Watkins wrote a fantastic article for the Agape Investing blog on the purpose of tithing for modern-day Christians. Check it out to get a glimpse of what you can expect in his book.
The Money Challenge: 30 Days of Discovering God’s Design for You and Your Money
Author: Art Rainer
This book on faith and money is small yet packed with tons of great content on how to get your finances on the right track and aligned with God’s original design. This book is written in an easy-to-read narrative format that follows the story of a girl who desires to give more to others but doesn’t feel like she has the means to do so. One of my favorite ideas that Art Rainer shares in his book is the concept of being a conduit of God’s generosity, which simply means that we are not meant to hoard our money all for ourselves but rather we are designed to be generous and share God’s love through our financial resources.
Art host’s an amazing podcast called More Than Money. I was honored to be a guest on his podcast to discuss how we can glorify God with our money. Check out that episode here.
