Here’s the big list of money topics in the Bible, and here is a list of over 100 Bible verses about money.
What Does the Bible Say About Investing Money?
The Bible is not an instruction manual that tells us what we can and cannot do. Rather, it is a beautiful story of the love of Christ. However, the way that God explains his love to us in his Word is through stories and images.
One of the topics the Bible often uses to point to the Kingdom of God is money. There are literally thousands of Bible verses about money and even examples of investing! So even though the Bible isn’t a book of instructions, we can comb through these Bible verses about investing to help us understand God’s desire behind it.
Should Christians Invest Their Money?
I have heard it argued that Christians should not invest their money because it is like gambling. If investing were actually gambling then the answer would be no, Christians should not be investing their money.
Proverbs 13:11
Wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but whoever gathers little by little will increase it.
The difference between investing and gambling is that casinos are rigged to ensure that the house wins. Therefore, the longer you play, the greater the odds are that you will end up losing your money.
“A casino has a number of built-in advantages to ensure that it, and not its customers, will always win in the end.”

It can be quite tempting to hear stories of people winning great amounts of money from the Lottery or from a casino in Las Vegas.
But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.
1 Timothy 6:9-10
When it comes to gambling, the game is rigged for you to lose. Whereas, when you invest your money you are investing in companies who are trying to make your money grow!
True investing is not a “get rich quick scheme”. The Bible is full of warnings about rushing to make money without any effort such as in Proverbs 21:5 and Proverbs 13:11 mentioned above.
Investing is not about throwing your money after something that you don’t really understand and without a real plan. While there is no guarantee that your money will grow nor by how much, unlike gambling, you can educate yourself and make well-educated decisions when investing your money so you can receive the best outcome.
In fact, the Bible does have many references that suggest that investing your money is what the wise do with their wealth. Just as we are called to be diligent and not lazy, so too should our money be put to work!
Crown Financial Ministries encourages:
“Christians should invest, not simply to accumulate wealth for their own sake, but to increase their effectiveness for God’s Kingdom. Teaching Christians to invest is as important as teaching them how to budget. It’s all part of living as faithful stewards.”
Let’s take a glance at some Bible verses about investing so we can piece together what God’s desire is when it comes to investing and really learn what does the Bible say about investing?

21 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’
22 “The man with two bags of gold also came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with two bags of gold; see, I have gained two more.’
23 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’
24 “Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25 So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’
26 “His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? 27 Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.

What Does the Bible Say About Investing Money?
So what does the Bible say about investing? In general, investing is a way to increase the resources God has blessed you with. Doing this can help provide for current needs, future purchases, and be able to increase generosity.
One of the Bible verses quoted above was Matthew 25:19-28. This is the famous Parable of the Talents and it is one of the classic examples of investing that we find in the Bible.
The stewards in this parable multiplied their talents and were commended for their good work! Not only that but they were also entrusted with more talents. One great lesson we pull away from this parable is that in order to be entrusted with great riches, we need to be faithful with the little we begin with (Luke 16:10-11)
Investing money is similar to saving money, which is something that we are encouraged to do throughout the Bible. The added benefit of investing our money rather than simply putting it into a savings account is that our investments have the potential to grow much quicker.
3 Reasons Christians Should Invest Their Money
1. Participate in Kingdom Advancing Opportunities
Increasing our wealth gives our money greater chances to be used for Kingdom purposes!
Acts 4:33-35 is a great example of how some believers used real estate as a way to provide for those around them.
“And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need.”
Acts 4:33-35
According to statistics, the percentage of Christians who give to their local church has decreased quite significantly. Investing with a Kingdom mindset could help transform us into more generous givers. But I would encourage you – don’t let the lack of money stop you from being generous today.
2. Provide For Your Family’s Needs
1 Timothy 5:8 expresses how important it is to provide for our families. It says, “But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.”
The Proverbs 31 Woman is a really unique example of investing to not only take care of the people in her community but to provide for her family. She invested in real estate and made sure that it was a profitable business.
3. Prepare for the Future
Another way we can think about our families is by preparing for the future. Simply put, as we age, our abilities to work and provide for ourselves diminish. Instead of putting the burden onto the shoulders of our children, we can love them by investing in retirement funds.
Proverbs 13:16 A wise man thinks ahead; a fool doesn’t, and even brags about it!
Proverbs 6:6-8 Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.
Final Thoughts
As followers of Christ, we are held to a higher standard and we have a much greater purpose here on earth than increasing our net worth. Yes, investing can help us experience some of the “good life,” but without Christ at the center of our world, all that wealth is for nothing.
