The Bible’s Promise and Purpose of Provision

Series: 4 Important Lessons on God’s Provision
Devotional: 1 of 4

And my God will meet all your needs
according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:19

Our God is so good. He loves us so much that he gave his only son to be sacrificed on a cross so that you and I may live and have eternal, and abundant life with Him. God loves us so much, we should never doubt his goodness or any of his promises to us.

One such promise God has made to us is that he will provide for our daily needs.

For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things.
Psalm 107:9 (ESV)

God has taken the primary burden of providing off of our shoulders and placed it upon his own.

Because of this, we are freed to have a grander vision for our money than just simple personal provision.

The wealth that we have has been graciously given to us by God. Along with every other resource on earth, money was not only created by God, but it was created for God. Money itself is neither good nor bad. It is simply a tool to be used in which it’s purpose is to build up the kingdom and to glorify God.

And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
2 Corinthians 9:8 (NIV)

God desires to equip every believer with abundance and asks only one thing from us in return… That we may “abound in every good work.”

Doing good works through giving and generosity has always been a part of God’s redemptive plan for the world through us. Because of God’s generous provision, we are free from financial self focus and free to be a part of his mission of generosity on earth. Not only is our generosity a way to honor God, but also a way to point others to him.
