My Favorite Verses On Giving

During my prayer time this morning, I was praying over the Christmas season. I was reflecting on the fact that this holiday, that was originally meant to celebrate the birth of our Savior, has become very worldly. Sometimes, even as Christians, it becomes difficult to see past all the tinsel and lights.

Though our focus should be on Christ, I don’t think there is anything wrong with celebrating Christmas with the traditions that we have come to know. We should be reminding ourselves as to why we are giving gifts to each other.

The short and simple version to that answer is this: God gave his only son to us to be a living sacrifice to atone for our sins. So we celebrate that! It’s just like a typical birthday party. However, instead of giving the birthday boy himself presents, we are giving them to each other. The act of giving is a present in itself to God.

To help us all focus on giving this season, I wanted to share some of my favorite Bible verses about giving!

Acts 20:35

Acts 20:35

I love this verse because it helps us to center ourselves on giving rather than receiving during Christmas. We can all get pretty caught up in gifts we receive, or maybe don’t receive. But let’s remember that God gave his only son, and he didn’t expect anything in return.

 2 Corinthians 9:7

2 Corinthians 9:7

This verse is great as well. Give what you feel called to give. Spend time thinking and praying over the gifts you will give out this year. Maybe God is calling you to give differently this year. Find out by asking Him.

 2 Corinthians 9:11

2 Corinthians 9:11

God will provide for you so that you are still able to give generously this year. Be courageous in your faith, and trust that He will indeed provide. Your gifts to others will cause them to thank God, and you will thank him too for providing for you!

Remember to give with love this Christmas. Also, don’t just love your close friends and family. Show love to all of those around you as you go about all your holiday activities. Be sure to be kind and courteous to people in the service industry who are helping you out. Make sure to say thank you when you have been helped.

Honestly, I love giving presents! I have so much joy from giving my friends and family gifts. Even though I feel like some of the presents I’m giving this year are just so perfect, God’s gift to us can never be topped! Jesus Christ was the best present of all. Let’s celebrate that this year!
