Mint Mobile Review – How to Save Hundreds of Dollars On Your Cell Phone Plan
Looking for a way to save hundreds of dollars on your cell phone plan? This cell phone bill hack is honestly too good to be true that I needed to share it.
We used to use Verizon as our cell provider and we were paying over $96 per month for two lines and were sharing only 4GB of data between the 2 of us. We always struggled towards the end of the month trying very hard not to completely run out. We didn’t want to have to pay for more data or up our plan.
Once we heard about Mint Mobile, I knew that we had to test it out to see if it was legit. We switched to Mint Mobile at the beginning of the year and it’s been a true game-changer.

What Is Mint Mobile?
Mint Mobile is a cellular provider that costs a fraction of the big-name companies.
I had honestly never heard of Mint Mobile and wasn’t sure whether to trust it because it wasn’t a huge player like Verizon, AT&T, or Sprint.
Turns out that there are tons of these other carriers like Mint Mobile that are less popular than the big names but cost a fraction of the price. These smaller carriers use the same cell towers as the big names so the quality is just as good – Mint Mobile uses T-mobile towers.
How Much Does Mint Mobile Cost?
Mint Mobile has plans starting as low as $15/month for 4GB of data.

Does Mint Mobile Offer Unlimited Data Plans?
As of September 9th, 2020 Mint Mobile announced a brand new Unlimited Data Plan.
Prior to now, the plan with the largest amount of data was 12GB, and if you needed more data, it needed to be purchased for a minimum of $10 per extra GB. Though, the process of purchasing extra data is extremely simple and can be done with one click from the Mint Mobile App or website, it is great that Mint Mobile now offers an Unlimited Data Plan!
Does Mint Mobile Have Family Plans?
Mint Mobile does not offer family plans. Each individual has their own plan, however, one person can be the “family manager” with the ability to update and change other family members’ plans.
For example, I am our primary family manager.
When I go into Settings in my Mint Mobile app, I can then click on My Mint Family and oversee my husband’s cell plan. This includes seeing his current data usage for the month, adding more data, viewing and changing his current plan, and paying for his next plan in advance.
When purchasing your Mint Mobile plan for the first time, you can purchase up to 4 plans per order. You can always purchase more though!
How is Mint Mobile So Cheap?
Mint Mobile does not have the overhead of physical stores like the big wireless companies have. They are online-only so they can offer much lower prices.
They also claim that since they don’t put their name on things like stadiums (AT&T Stadium for example) they are able to save millions of dollars and therefore charge their customers less. Which allows you to save hundreds of dollars on your cell phone plan.

Is Mint Mobile’s Coverage Any Good?
The coverage in our area is pretty much the same as it was when we were on Verizon.
However, it can definitely depend on where you are located and how well the service coverage is there.
For example – when we go up to the mountains here in Colorado, we don’t have as great of coverage. Same when we travel to Northern Michigan.

Is Mint Mobile Cell Service Worth It?
The short answer, yes!
Since Mint Mobile offers comparable cell coverage to the leading name providers you are really not giving up much by switching. Switching to Mint Mobile is a great way to save hundreds of dollars on your cell phone plan.
We went from spending over $1100 per year only sharing 4GB of data to spending $420 per year for more data. That is almost $700 in savings! And our coverage hasn’t changed very much. We try to look for simple ways to save money, and switching to Mint Mobile has definitely been one way to do that.
Is Mint Mobile Better Than Verizon or AT&T?
Mint Mobile offers cheaper monthly plans with more 4G LTE data than Verizon or AT&T. The cell coverage is pretty comparable to Verizon and AT&T in most major cities.
All of Mint Mobile’s plans come with unlimited talk & text, nationwide coverage, and 5G or 4G LTE signal (whichever is strongest).
It is my personal opinion that Mint Mobile’s customer service, mobile app, and website are better than Verizon’s and AT&T’s. In the 3 different phone calls and 2 online chats that I have had with Mint Mobile’s customer service, my wait was never more than 5 minutes and I was helped very quickly and efficiently.
Mint Mobile’s app is also extremely user friendly and you can take care of your entire cell plan from it – including a chat with a customer service representative.
How Do You Switch to Mint Mobile?
The process of switching to Mint Mobile is fairly simple. The part that will probably hold you up is making sure to have your phone released from your current provider. You will most likely need to call them to receive a code in order to complete the process. Be sure to ask if there are any fees for breaking your contract or current plan.

- Set it up and your good to go!
Can I Change My Mint Mobile Plan?
Switching the current plan you are on with Mint Mobile is very simple and you have a couple of different options to do so.
If you are in the middle of a plan and realize you need more data and want to just up your plan, you can do from the My Plan tab in your Mint Mobile app and paying the difference.
- Click on Change Plan
- Select the current plan you are on (3 Month, 6 Month or 12 Month)
- Click on the level up you would like to change to
- Click Change plan now and pay the difference between your current plan and the level up
Otherwise, you can always choose which plan you want when it comes time to renew it. Basically go through the same steps as above, but select the number of months you want for your new plan, and then the data level. Then select Set as next plan.
Can I Keep My Number If I Switch to Mint Mobile?
Yes, you can keep your current cell number when switching to Mint Mobile. You will need to port your number out from your current provider.
Otherwise, you can always start fresh with a new phone number with Mint Mobile.
