It's Just Money

So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Matthew 6:31-34

Inflation kind of sucks… Especially when you have been working so hard at sticking to your monthly budget. Then all of a sudden, inflation busts its way into the room and messes everything up.

Has this been the case for you lately? I feel like it has been for us and our budget. Gas prices have been keeping us home more. Food prices have been forcing us to cook creatively. And the increase in costs for things like Netflix, household goods, and clothing has left us reconsidering every purchase we make.

I’ve become rather anxious about every expense that shows up on the budget wondering if it will tip us over the edge and if we will end up dipping into savings this month. Has this been you too?

It became pretty clear to me that I was making my budget somewhat of an idol. God is definitely glorified when we plan out our expenses and think about where our money is going, but when we put too much emphasis and trust in our budget we stop trusting God to take care of us.

We do not have to worry about tomorrow, wondering if we will have enough to pay for all of the expenses we have on our plates. The Lord already has a plan for you and for me. So if thoughts of inflation have been plaguing your mind these past few weeks, you are not alone… But you also don’t have to worry.

After all, it’s just money and He is God.

Your Friend,
Katie

Reflection Questions

  • Are you currently doubting God’s timing and authority in anything? What would you change if you were in control?
  • Why is it better for the Lord to remain sovereign and not us? Be specific and use this as an opportunity to trust the Lord
