Halloween is such a fun holiday! Kids are dressing up as some of their favorite characters, neighbors are passing out yummy treats to all of them, and parents get to enjoy the sugar hangovers the next day.
Even though Halloween is mainly about the treats, it can come with a lot of tricks as well! But we all want to avoid tricks happening on our own properties. With the increased foot traffic, there will be more opportunities for accidents to happen. Is your house prepared for all of your spooky guests?

Here are some tips on how to avoid any mishaps happening on your property and to safely prepare your house for the extra guests.
How to Prepare Your House for Halloween | Safety Tips
1.Replace dead light bulbs
Make sure all of your exterior lights have fresh bulbs in them. And be sure to turn the lights on before it gets too dark.
Even though colored lightbulbs can be a fun effect for the holiday, they can make it more difficult to see walkways when it gets dark out. Energy-efficient light bulbs are a great option. They are very bright, save money on your electricity bill, and typically last a couple of years.
2. Clear off the sidewalks
Now that autumn is here the leaves have begun to fall. Be sure to clean off the sidewalk leading up to your front door as well as along the street.
Leaves can become very slippery when they are wet. So make sure to prevent any falls from happening by keeping the walkways clear.
You can use the leaves to your decorating advantage though! Collect up the leaves from the ground and instead of tossing them right away, put them into one of these pumpkin bags!
3. Park your car in the garage
You can prepare your house for Halloween by moving your car out of the way. If you typically keep your car in the driveway, it may be a good idea to either move it into the garage or park it on the street.
This will help trick-or-treater guests to navigate to your front door smoothly. It will also help to keep your car protected from someone running into it.

4. Keep your pets inside
Even though your furry friend might be the cutest out there, not everyone has the same affection for them as you do. To prevent anyone from getting accidentally hurt by your four-legged friend, plan to keep them inside out of the way for the night.
5. Put out more walkway lights
If you have a long walkway to your front door, consider putting out more lights to brighten up the path. Sometimes the lights on the front of your house just won’t reach to the end of your walkway. You can protect your lawn and protect people from tripping by adding some ground lights.
The days are getting shorter and all of the fun of Halloween happens at night. But make sure you prepare your house for the holiday by brightening up your house even more than usual.
6. Clean your yard of trip hazards
Clean your yard of anything that a trick-or-treater could trip over. If you were raking the leaves earlier, make sure that the rake was put before guests arrive. Be sure to remove any toys that may be lying around in the yard as well as lawn tools.

Not Home For Halloween?
It is also important to protect your house if you’re not around for Halloween.
Again be sure that the lights are on and that the walkways are cleared.
You could leave out a bowl of candy in the driveway or the front porch so people don’t recognize if you’re not home. Or leave a note saying that your candy is with the neighbors next door. Then ask those neighbors to keep an eye on your house.
