57 Bible Verses About Gratitude That Will Inspire Your Acts of Generosity

Throughout the Bible, there is a very evident call for believers to express gratitude. Gratitude is the state of gratefulness or thankfulness. It is being ready to show appreciation for and to return kindness for something you are deeply thankful for.

As believers, there is one primary thing we are to show gratitude for, and that is Jesus Christ and the Kingdom of God which he ushered in through his ministry here on earth. Throughout the Bible, in the New Testament and the Old Testament, we are given many examples of how we can express thankfulness and gratitude towards God.

Our gratitude doesn’t end there though. There are so many beautiful and wonderful things that we can be grateful for! These things all come from God, so we should ultimately express thankfulness to Him, but we should not skimp out on communicating our gratitude towards others as well.

Not only that, but gratitude is a primary characteristic of a good financial steward! When we posture our hearts to seek out people and moments to be grateful for, it sparks something deep within that inevitably leads to more acts of generosity towards others. That is ultimately the hope today with this article – to inspire acts of generosity!

Bible Verses About Gratitude

Both the Old Testament and the New Testament are filled with Bible verses about gratitude and appreciation. We’ll begin by reading through some of the Bible verses about gratitude from the Old Testament. Pay attention to how the language and the voice of the authors change from the Old to the New Testament after coming to know Jesus Christ. I personally feel like there is an increase and almost exigency to show gratitude towards others just as Christ did for others. Not to mention that after Jesus’ great act of defeating death for us by suffering a sinner’s punishment, we have something far greater to be thankful for!

I also love how gratitude can spark a deep desire to give generously to others. When we are thankful, we are urged to show our affection liberally! Giving generously is talked about a lot throughout the Bible, but one thing we tend to miss is that giving to others comes first from a place of thankfulness.
