As Christians, we should be looking for ways to glorify God in every area of our lives. This includes our work, especially as entrepreneurs. As Christian entrepreneurs, we have a unique position to use our business as our mission field. This doesn’t mean that we need to plaster Bible verses everywhere and force people to hear about Jesus, but rather, it means that we need to live out the Gospel through our actions.

These Bible verses for entrepreneurs like yourself, will help you learn that excellence is a ministry in an of itself. The way you do your work, talk to clients, and ultimately run your business says a lot about what (or who) is most important to you. As a believer – that is Jesus!

The way you run our businesses should reflect the love of Christ. This means treating our employees well, creating fantastic products, offering great service, and being masterful in our field of work.

Matthew 7:12

So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law of the Prophets.

This verse in Matthew can really be applied to any area of life. However, I love applying it directly to entrepreneurship because I feel like it should be the motto for every single one of us.

We want our clients, customers, and employees to respect us and therefore we should do the same to them. We should create great products and services that we would gladly purchase ourselves. Being excellent at what we do is a fantastic way to honor God and to love our neighbors.

Proverbs 14:23

All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.

This Proverb is so honest. It is true that if you just talk about doing something nothing will happen. In order to see rewards, you need to put in the work. A lot of entrepreneurship is jump-starting something on your own, which means nothing will happen if you just talk about concepts.

So, don’t just talk about starting a business, or changing up your current marketing strategy – take action. Also, don’t just complain about something when it isn’t working well, go and fix it! Talk will bring you nowhere without action. If you’re trying to reach financial independence through starting a business, working hard will help propel you towards that.

Proverbs 10:4

Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth.

I like the pairing of both Proverbs 14:23 and Proverbs 10:4 because I think they go very well together. Proverbs 14:23 speaks of hard work bringing profit, while Proverbs 10:4 uses the word diligent. The definition of diligent is “having or showing care and conscientiousness in one’s work or duties.”

It is one thing to put in the hours and the hard work, but it is another to do things diligently. Don’t let productivity get the best of you. Think long and hard about something before just jumping in. How can you combine working hard and working diligently?

Mark 8:36

What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?

As an entrepreneur, it can be so easy to lose ourselves in our work in order to make a profit. But we need to remember to center ourselves on Jesus and remember that we need to be working for him and not for worldly masters (Colossians 3:23)

Remember that the primary purpose of our work is to serve others and truly embody the love of Christ. We do go into business to earn money, but we must learn to honor God with our money as well as with our business.

Deuteronomy 8:17-18

You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.” But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.

This verse is extremely important for us as entrepreneurs to remember. Our wealth does NOT come from our own efforts. Through this verse, and many other Bible verses about money, it is clear that our wealth comes from God alone because he is the one who gives us the ability to produce wealth in the first place.

Just as he provided for the Israelites in the wilderness, he provides for us in our own circumstances, even in our businesses. The provision comes in many forms and in this verse, it is talking about the ability that God gives us in order to do our jobs. We just need to acknowledge this and give thanks to the one who gave us this ability, this is one of the keys to having a biblical view of your money management.

Titus 3:14

Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order to provide urgent needs and not live unproductive lives.

We should always be providing good things through our businesses. Good services, good products, and good customer support.

This verse also alludes to doing market research to figure out the urgent needs of our customers. Before launching a new product or service, decide who your target market is and find out what the true needs are of your clients. Then provide something very good that will fill those needs.

True biblical financial freedom is experienced when we partner with God in his mission to redeem the world. Be productive, do good works, become excellent at what you do, and learn to be outrageously generous because our God is so generous.

Proverbs 16:3

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.

Before jumping into a business venture or taking a new turn with your current business, pray about it and give it to God. He will establish your goals and plans when you offer them over to him to guide.

Remember to hold onto those plans loosely, for we have all seen how God changes our course. Be ready for changes to come to your business because of God’s call to a different path. We need to obediently follow his lead because ultimately he is the rightful owner of our business!
